Choosing the topic that Move Readers

If a university lecturer gave his students the option of choosing the topics of interests for their university essay writing tasks, those students should know how to choose good topics for their essays.

Tips on how students could choose good topics for writing:

 • Brainstorm topic ideas – The student should make an initial list of all the applicable topics based on the subject assigned by the lecturer. The first priority is the applicable topics that he knows and is relevant for him so he would have the enthusiasm and interest for writing about those topics. The second priority is the applicable topics that may not be relevant for the student.

 • Finalising the topic – Based on the initial list of the first and second priority topics, the student should ask questions about those topics. He should ask himself questions such as “What should I know in the topic? What is interesting about the topic? What the topics mean?” and so on. The student should approach each of the possible topics in an inquisitive manner and the more relevant answers from the questions for each topic, then he can narrow down the topics and until he comes up with a final topic for his essay.

A student should remember that choosing a good topic for his university essay writing task is one of the factors considered by a lecturer in evaluating a submitted essay. A good essay topic that the lecturer and readers can relate with could contribute in a positive evaluation and high marks for the essay.
