B cells 의 cell surface proteins는 exterior로부터 신호를 전달받으며, 다른 cells에 들러붙게 되고, 다른 cells에게 신호를 전달하는 역할을 한다. B cell의 immunoglobulin에 의해서 알아차려진 antigen은 B cell activation동안 T cells의 MHC class Ⅱ에서 나타난다. Cell 표면의 immunoglobulins는 B cell function의 중요한 역할을 하는데, cell의 immunoglobulin에 의해서 알아차려진 특별한 antigen에서 B cells의 알아차림을 도와주는 역할을 한다.
