For example, a Temperate grassland or shrubland biome is known commonly as <em>steppe</em> in central Asia, <em>savanna</em> or veld in southern Africa, <em>prairie</em> in North America, <em>pampa</em> in South America and <em>outback</em> or <em>scrub</em> in Australia.
